A Brief Research Study About The Agarwood Tree
The scientific name of the agarwood tree is Aquilaria, and currently there are 18 species or families of it known worldwide. It is called the agarwood tree because it has the strongest agarwood among all trees on earth, and this ability was granted to it by the Almighty God.
Global use of agarwood
Pharmaceutical companies in China, Japan, Europe, and America use agarwood to manufacture the most expensive types of cancer-resistant drugs that enhance physical, mental, and spiritual energy. However, China is the most prominent country where agarwood has been used in Chinese medicine for hundreds of years, and they have significant research experience in this field due to their geographical proximity to the countries where it is grown. Therefore, China ranks first in the world in importing it from the countries of origin, and auctions are held for it at exorbitant prices for the purpose of producing medicines.
Use of agarwood in Arab culture
Only 10% of its users know its benefits and are keen on buying the original despite its high prices, and this is suitable for treatment. However, 90% of its users do not know its benefits and use it only as a fragrance, so many traders mix it with fixatives for perfume to satisfy consumers in terms of its greater longevity, like synthetic perfumes, making it unsuitable for treatment.
Global perspective on agarwood
Itis a rare aromatic resin that is endangered and has unique therapeutic components. Therefore, it is used more as a treatment than as a fragrance, and it is listed in the International CITES Convention for the protection of endangered species.
Agarwood's perspective in Arab culture
It is used only as a fragrance, whether as a perfume or incense, and the original is rare in Arab markets due to mixing and imitation to achieve cheap prices that satisfy consumers, which are completely different from the real and documented prices of the original agarwood, as is the case with gold prices, for example.
Agarwood factories
70% of factories in the world use primitive boiler systems, which have many manufacturing flaws, the most prominent of which is boiling agarwood at more than 100 degrees Celsius for many days, which destroys the healthy components of agarwood and reduces its benefits. Therefore, these factories find it difficult to sell their product to pharmaceutical companies that are keen on the safety of the components and preserving their properties. Therefore, it is sold to traders at lower prices, and unfortunately, some of them mix it with other substances to increase their profits.
